(TNM) – The arrival of 2024 saw the US federal government and the state of Texas continuing their ongoing dispute over border enforcement and the complete abdication by the federal government of its responsibility to “protect each [state] against invasion” (Article IV, §4 US Constitution). (The Federalist) – A teacher on the outskirts of Cincinnati is recovering from brain surgery after a student violently attacked her earlier this month. The 60-year-old teacher was harmed so severely by a teenager that doctors had to remove part of her skull to help manage swelling in her brain.

(Bacon’s Rebellion) – In Virginia’s ever-shifting landscape of diversity, equity, or opportunity, and inclusion, a powerful decision has been made. Following the sensational, yet unproven, allegations of exceptionally bad behavior and poor leadership at Virginia Military Institute in late autumn 2019, the administration and Board of Visitors attempted to quickly effect conclusive actions that would correct their unproven ills. A prime effort by the administration would be delivery of DEI training to staff, faculty, and the Corps of cadets. Unfortunately, in its haste to instigate the training, VMI circumvented the state’s procurement laws. By sidestepping the proper legal path for solicitations and contracts, VMI became vulnerable to protest by competing but unsuccessful contractors.

After a series of hearings before Judge Christopher B. Russell, the judge rendered a verdict finding VMI in “Violation of Virginia Public Procurement Act and/or the Rules Governing Procurement of Goods, Services, Insurance and Construction by a Public Institution of Higher Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia.” The judge’s decision represents a loss for VMI and its legal counsel, an alumnus. VMI’s attorneys tried but repeatedly failed to have the case dismissed on technicalities rather than argue the merits of VMI’s actions when pursuing the DEI training contract.

Biden regime threatens WAR with Texas over border security: “Give us access, or else”

(Chaos.News) – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has sent a strongly worded letter to the State of Texas demanding access by January 17 to the United States-Mexico border on land seized by the Lone Star State in Eagle Pass – or else.

DHS is ordering Texas to cease and desist in blocking Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) access in and around Shelby Park, and to “remove all barriers to access” by end of day on January 17.

According to DHS General Counsel Jonathan E. Meyer, who sent the letter to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the actions of Texas in blocking federal government access to the land in Eagle Pass “are clearly unconstitutional and are actively disrupting the federal government’s operations.”

“We demand that Texas cease and desist its efforts to block Border Patrol’s access in and around the Shelby Park area and remove all barriers to access in the Shelby Park area,” Meyer wrote.

(Just The News) – The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) spent almost $20 billion in the years 2022 and 2023 on refugee resettlement, according to a recent report.

According to OpenTheBooks, the ORR, which is a part of Health and Human Services, spent $8.9 billion in fiscal year 2022 and $10.9 billion in fiscal year 2023 when migrant encounters at the U.S. southern border was at an all time high.

Blackburn: VA has backlog of 1M veteran claims as resources go to migrants, Agency disputes analysis

(Just the News) -The Department of Veterans Affairs has a backlog of 1 million claims for healthcare and benefits from veterans as resources are diverted to illegal immigrants, GOP Sen. Marsha Blackburn said Tuesday.

“We checked this week, it is up to one million claims for healthcare and benefits,” Blackburn, of Tennessee, said on the “John Solomon Reports” podcast. “As we were doing some oversight work of the VA, we realized that what they were doing was using some of their resources and their money to allow veterans – to approve veterans for community care – and to process claims, or to approve community care, for illegal immigrants, not for veterans, and then also to process claims for illegal immigrants.”

(KXAN) – A memo sent to the Austin City Council and mayor from the city’s Equity Office provides a framework for renaming city assets with names that have ties to the Confederacy. Renaming those assets has been in talks for years.

The memo, sent from Interim Chief Equity Officer Tamela Saldaña, is a response to and report following a 2020 council resolution. That resolution “directed staff to support an educational process and collaborate with residents to identify City assets for renaming,” according to Saldaña’s memo.
