(Florida Times Union) – The removal of two statues from the “Women of the Southland” Confederate monument was not an action that required Mayor Donna Deegan to first get a certificate of appropriateness from the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission, the city’s general counsel told City Council.

City Council members questioned Michael Fackler, the city’s top attorney, during the Rules Committee meeting Tuesday, less than an hour after Fackler released his legal memorandum regarding the controversial monument removal.

Council members took issue with various parts of the opinion – from the definitions the relatively new general counsel used to Fackler’s conversations with the mayor’s administration about the forthcoming opinion.

An unprecedented move by Arizona’s Democratic Secretary of State Adrian Fontes just opened the way for non-citizens—legal or otherwise—to register for and cast a ballot in the 2024 election. (America First Report) – Last November, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten annoyed the vast American homeschooling community by expressing bafflement behind the trend to remove children from school.

(Southern Partisan) – In a state that has long embraced lost causes like the Civil War, Saluda County has a special fondness for one that happened a thousand miles away.

The county, nestled in the pine forests and rolling farmland of western South Carolina, bills itself as “The Birthplace of Alamo Heroes.” It reveres native sons William Barret Travis and James Butler Bonham, who died along with roughly 180 others defending the former Spanish mission to the death in 1836 in the fight for independence for Texas.

And long before the latest movie of “The Alamo,” local historians have been telling and retelling how Travis unloaded both barrels of his shotgun as he took a ball to the forehead and Bonham sneaked through Mexican lines at least twice with letters asking for reinforcements.

“It’s a great story about two dashing young idealistic men,” said Saluda County Historical Society Executive Director Bela Herlong.

They’ve been proud for a long time. In 1947, a monument was dedicated on the courthouse lawn remembering the pair as “comrades in arms” who “perished together in battle.”

(VDare) – On June 13, 1943, a B-17 bomber exploded over Germany during a raid on the U-Boat bunker at Kiel. Aboard the plane was the first American general to be killed in action during World War II: Nathan Bedford Forrest III, great grandson of the brilliant, now vilified Confederate cavalry hero. Nathan Bedford Forrest III was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and is buried in Arlington. Remembering such Confederate descendants is worth some time now, given the scandalous removal of the Reconciliation Memorial in the Confederate section of Arlington National Cemetery. It’s bad enough that we permit communist goons to attack Confederate statues and memorials. It’s even worse for the federal government to do so because it breaks the tacit agreement after the War Between the States, which all presidents honored until the Biden Regime. Reconciliation invited the South to honor and celebrate its heroes and keep them alive in the public memory. But maybe some of the famous Southerners who fought and/or died in this nation’s 20th-century wars would haven’t have done so if they knew what was coming. It’s not surprising that young Southern boys, who join the military in numbers disproportionate to their share of the population, reconsider enlisting.

The public war against all things Confederate began some time ago on Capitol Hill, when an uncelebrated, angry black Senator, Carol Moseley-Braun, opened fire on the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She mau-maued the Senate into taking away the UDC’s congressional patent. She even had Democrat Senator and Confederate descendant Howell Heflin blubbering about racism.
